About Sue

  • lives with her young family on the northern beaches of Sydney on the east coast of Australia. She also has three 'big kids' - her stepchildren who are now out in the wide world doing amazing things.
  • has a Master of Arts in Creative Writing, a Diploma of Education majoring in Drama and English and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English.
  • was raised in Perth, Western Australia, where she learnt to swim by dodging jellyfish in the Swan River.
  • has worked in both theatre and education: as a member of a children's theatre company, a clown, a teacher, a university tutor, a project officer at Australia's national drama school and the series editor of the Macmillan Drama Studio.
  • relishes the everyday every day, while dreaming and writing of the wider world. She tries to juggle and balance all the things we all have to do, and still find time to write every day.
  • loves exploring islands. Her favourites so far are Rottnest, Lord Howe, Savai'i and Kalymnos.
  • wrestles with cryptic crosswords and sudoku.
  • reads everything and anything. She is a self-confessed reading junkie: technical manuals, cereal packets, anything. She prefers novels and memoirs. She treasures her book club - an unconventional group that has its own library which members add to and borrow from.
  • enjoys lots and lots of things - laughing with friends; cooking; hearing new music; solving puzzles; being amazed by the poetry and art of Michael Leunig; catching the scent of frangipanis through her office window, finding blue-tongue lizards on her patio and making the most of Sydney's summers...swimming, snorkelling, sailing and sandcastle-building. The next challenge? Scuba diving!
